About the Company
The founder of Elliott and Elliott was Charles D. Elliott who was born in Boston in 1875. As a young man he worked as a ships carpenter at a time when vessels were still crafted from wood. At the end of the 19th century, Charles moved to San Francisco. There he met Nellie Crowton, a native of England. They were married in May 1899. A year later their son, Aaron Leslie Elliott, was born and three years after that, they had a daughter they named Grace. The family stayed in San Francisco until the 1906 earthquake they migrated east to Oakland. Since Charles was an experienced carpenter, he found work as a roofer, installing wood shake roofs. He worked as an installer for 12 years and then joined forces with his young son and founded the company that still bears their surnames.
Elliott and Elliott, which opened for business in 1918, has been handed down from father to son and is now in the capable hands of the sixth generation of Elliotts. The company's success has been built on the founders' strong commitment to the very highest standards: taking pride in their workmanship, dealing honestly with every client and providing service that is their business through referrals, the Elliotts understood that their reputation was their most important asset. Their business grew in response to their integrity and the quality of the service they provided. This commitment to being the best became the cornerstone of what is a proud family tradition. Founder Charles Elliott believed passionately that customer satisfaction was the greatest satisfaction, and it is a point of pride for Elliott and Elliott that many of its current customers are children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren of early clients.
Back when Elliott and Elliott was rounded, roots were fairly simple. Today, technology has developed a wide array of roofing materials that are both safe and beautiful. Today's roofing materials are fire-safe, long-lasting and high-tech. Old materials have new treatments, and styles, textures and colors can be selected to complement the design of every building, both old and new.
The company will tackle any roofing project, large or small, new or repair. In fact, it advertises itself as the one-stop source for all roofing needs. The first step is an inspection and evaluation, with a look at the total roofing system, not just the roof itself. That includes carefully analyzing the roof deck, the flashing, chimney caps, downspouts and gutters, vents and flues. Included in the potentials scope of work is a full range of services that includes installation, maintenance and repair. The firm's in-house sheet metal shop custom fabricates flashings, leaders, gutters and accessories to meet every specification.
Experience and hard work have earned Elliott and Elliott a sterling reputation through eight decades of the 20th century, and both Robert and Mark are confident that the company's growth will continue well into the future. Robert is the father of sons Corey and Kevin, and Mark is the father of daughters Paige and Taylor. When the sixth generation of Elliotts grows up, the four will inherit a business that is deeply rooted in the history of Oakland and respected for its commitment to the highest standards of quality, service and innovation.
